The purpose of this project is to provide students with resources that will help them with sound recognition and discrimination. On the beginning of the year screener, the district as a whole scored below 25% in this area. This made our building realize that we needed additional phonemic awareness strategies than what the curriculum provides. Hearing sounds in words is the foundation to learning to read. My students need fun auditory lessons to develop their manipulation of sounds so that they can become strong readers and eventually read for meaning.
